About TradeProof
The trust layer for Steam trading.
Why this exists
SteamRep announced in 2024 that it was shutting down, closed its site at the end of that year and retired its API in 2025. It was the most widely used third-party reputation system for Steam traders, run by volunteers for over a decade.
When SteamRep went dark, it left a gap. Traders lost the ability to quickly check whether someone was a known scammer. Backpack.tf covers TF2. Vaclist.net covers VAC bans. But nothing aggregates every trust signal into one clear answer.
TradeProof fills that gap.
How the score works
The trust score is a 0–100 composite built from seven weighted signals pulled from Steam’s public API: account age, ban record, Steam level, game library, profile quality, community standing and a verified-trader bonus. Each signal is scored independently, then combined with community reports and the BANNED and CAUTION archive SteamRep released when it closed. The full rules are on the methodology page.
The algorithm is deterministic — the same profile always produces the same score given the same data. No machine learning black box. Every point of the score is explained in the breakdown. Hard blockers apply on top: a SteamRep SCAMMER tag caps the score at 10, three confirmed community reports cap it at 5, and an active trade ban caps it at 15.
What we don’t do
We don’t store your password (Steam OpenID — your credentials never touch our servers). We don’t access your inventory contents. We don’t read your trade history. We don’t store the IP address of people who look someone up.
Built different
SteamRep failed because it had no revenue. TradeProof is designed to sustain itself from day one: non-intrusive ads, verified trader badges, and a paid API for trading marketplaces. The tool stays free for individual traders — forever.
