How to report a Steam scammer

If you have been scammed, act quickly, secure your account, and document everything. Reports are more useful the more specific they are.

First: secure your own account

If you logged in anywhere unusual or clicked a suspicious link, change your Steam password, review your Steam Guard devices, and check steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey for a key you did not create.

Collect evidence

Gather it before the scammer deletes it.

  • The scammer's SteamID64 and profile URL.
  • Screenshots of the conversation, with dates.
  • The trade offer ID and a screenshot of what was agreed versus what was received.
  • Any external links they sent you.
  • Payment details, if money was involved.

Report to Steam

Use the Report button on the scammer's profile and contact Steam Support. Valve's stated position is generally that it does not restore items lost in scams, so do not count on recovery, but reports help it act against the account.

Report to TradeProof

Sign in with Steam and file a report with the account, the type of scam and a clear description. Reviewed and confirmed reports lower the account's trust score and appear on its profile, which protects the next trader.

Be accurate

A report is a serious claim about a real person. Describe what happened factually. False or malicious reports can lead to your own account being restricted on our site.
